About Me
Hello! My name is Melissa Nelson, and I'm the Visual Arts Teacher at the New Hampton High School. I'm originally from Union, Ia- and I graduated from BCLUW. I went to college at Marshalltown Community College to get my Associate of Arts in Psychology, then onto the University of Northern Iowa to get my Bachelor's of Art in both Psychology and Studio Art: Sculpture. I returned to UNI in 2011 to get my education degree to teach K-12 Art. I recently returned to UNI (AGAIN!) to get my Master's in Art Education, and I will graduate in 2019.
I don't have as much free time as I'd like, but I'm a working artist along with teaching. I tend to create a lot of what my students are working on, though my recent focus has been on jewelry and crocheting.
The music that I listen to tends to be whatever I feel like listening to. Music is freedom, and I believe in not limiting yourself. The music in my environment can go from Classic Rock, to Today's Hits, to Metal, to Easy Listening and Classical.
I have two cats, Cyrus and Squeek. I think cats are funny, and something about myself that is silly is that I LOVE cat memes. I just love to laugh at the creativity of people who add captions to utterly ridiculous images.
